Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing, maintaining, and extending simulation infrastructure code for proprietary biological modeling software platform
  • Assist scientific programmers, data scientists, and mathematical modelers in designing and implementing software solutions for scientific computation problems
  • Working with scientific user-base and architects to solicit new features and improve users’ workflow
  • Analyzing algorithm performance and optimizing code for computational efficiency
  • Responsible for all aspects of software process: design, prototyping, debugging, testing, etc.
  • Helping end-users troubleshoot problems
  • Contributing to documentation
  • Periodically assisting with small-scale system administration / IT tasks


  • Minimum of BS in Computer Science.
  • Strong background in algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles is essential.
  • Commitment to writing elegant, reliable, robust software is essential.
  • Proficient programming skills in at least one of the following: Python or C++. Proficiency in Java is desirable but not required.
  • Solid object-oriented design skills, testing and debugging skills are required.
  • Strong background and interest in mathematics is desirable.
  • Eagerness to work in a team-oriented, small company environment

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide biological expertise that represents the foundation for the development of Immunetrics mathematical models.
  • Perform detailed scientific literature searches, to develop an understanding of cellular and molecular biology, immunology, physiology, and clinical trial-related concepts relevant to a wide range of Immunetrics projects. This research will vary in scope from fine molecular and experimental details to general concepts in healthy and disease-state physiology
  • Participate in a variety of Immunetrics projects, which involve both academic and pharmaceutical industry collaborations.
  • Critically analyze, collect, and utilize published data, while working in close collaboration with a team of mathematical modelers.
  • Communicate scientific information and model design rational to colleagues and clients who have expertise in a variety of disciplines.
  • Organize and analyze clinical trial data and databases from published and proprietary sources
  • Organize and prepare background information, data, and results for internal and external communications and presentations.
  • Maintain documentation of literature supporting model design decisions.
  • Work with the Platform Manager to provide project leadership for smaller initiatives, as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and management to define and assess work breakdowns, definitions of scope, and effort allocations for the Biologist’s role in proposals and contracts.


  • PhD in a biology-related field is required
  • Applicants should have a strong background in molecular/cellular biology, and some understanding of human physiology is preferred. Background in immunology is strongly preferred.
  • This position requires exceptional writing, communication, and organizational skills. Attention to detail is a must.
  • The candidate must be capable of working effectively both independently and in a team setting.
  • The ability to explain biological concepts to non-biologists is essential.
  • The candidate must be able to effective when working on multiple concurrent projects
  • It is critical that the candidate be able to look past the details and understand the inter-working of discrete biological elements within the overall system.

Job Description:

  • Function as part of a team to design and develop computational models of complex biological systems based on mechanistic elements.
  • Work with both internal and client biologists to utilize research literature to understand biological pathways and physiological processes.
  • Develop and test new models using Immunetrics’ proprietary modeling platforms. Responsibilities span entire modeling life cycle: analysis, design, implementation, parameter estimation, model training, debugging, verification, validation, documentation, and maintenance.
  • Perform parameter estimation and sensitivity analysis for models using empirical data.
  • Analyze model results and determine a course of action to resolve performance issues and model discrepancies.
  • Analyze systems of complex interactions, evaluate the data available to constrain system behavior, and then determine the appropriate level of detail needed to best represent the system.
  • Communicate research and findings to technical and non-technical audiences inside and outside the company.


  • MS or PhD in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or related field.
  • Strong background in computation, especially differential equations and parameter estimation.
  • Ability to understand complex systems and represent those systems mathematically.
  • Prior mechanistic modeling experience or background.
  • Experience with system theory, specifically formal design and analysis techniques.
  • A functional knowledge of statistics.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver concrete project tasks on schedule.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively with others as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Preference Given for:

  • Experience with the development of mathematical models of biological systems.
  • Prior modeling experience or background in one or more of the following domains: inflammation, immunology, cell signaling, or physiology.
  • Programming experience, especially in Python or another object oriented programming language.
  • Prior experience estimating effort required for individual project tasks.
